Star News have been finding out what life is really like for our troops in Afghanistan. Our reporter Louise Bostock's spent a week over there finding out what it's like spending time away from your loved ones.

As the death toll in Afghanistan continues and questions are still being raised as to why British troops are serving in the war torn country. Star News reporter Louise Bostock has been speaking to the region's troops about how they cope when they hear about lives being lost on the frontline.

Today, more than 6000 soldiers from Catterick Garrison have been deployed for a six month tour of the war torn country as part of Operation Herrick 12.

Star News will be following the troops and posting their stories as they undertake key roles across Helmand Province.

As we celebrate Father's day 2010 hundreds of children around the country will be apart from their Dads as they serve out in Afghanistan.

Star News has been speaking with children from all age grounds at Hipswell Primary School in Catterick Garrison where 28% of pupils have a family member in the Army.
