Star Radio occasionally carries special programmes produced externally or broadcast from out of the area, but there are no currently scheduled examples. Some of Star Radio's programmes are recorded and played out in 'automation' by computer. These have been marked accordingly.
8. Events and Charities
Star Radio is in the process of establishing it's own charitable trust with the aim to support community projects and local charities across the year following different fundraising events.
Star Radio operates a very successful "Star Guide" both on-air and via the website www.thisisstar.co.uk. Many local organisations update their own events and information on the website, and this is used in conjunction with prepared research for the presenters to talk about local events.
In December 2010, Star Radio worked with Children North East to promote and collect toys as part of their regional toy appeal to help children and families across the transmission area.
Star Radio is committed to working with partners right across County Durham to attend events, deliver extra value and make a difference. Members of the station team get themselves involved with fundraising events from time to time.
9. Coverage Highlights
Star Radio is passionate about Darlington. Star Radio has recently taken over the "Passionate About ...." brand from One North East the body which is being closed by the government. The station intends to further the original objectives of the "passionate about campaign" in the coming year - so Star Radio can officially say it is "Passionate about Darlington" and is planning a series of events to demonstrate it's committment.
Star Radio covers a number of areas which include families of service personnel - and the station produced a special programme for Armistice Day / Remembrance 2010. It was presented by a station presenter who as a member of the Territorial Army had recently returned from Afghanistan featuring audio recorded by News Editor Louise Bostock on her trips to Afghanistan under the MOD Editors abroad scheme. The hour long programme featuring local soldiers has now been announced as the International Radio and Production Awards, Feature Award Winner (All Markets).
